Machine Embroidery Group

The Machine Embroidery Group (MEG) is comprised of members of Rip ‘N’ Sew who enjoy doing machine embroidery.  The room has a machine available for use by members following lessons on the machine.  Members owning other models of machines share their expertise also.  The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month with a sharing of ideas and techniques as well as “show & tell” of members’ projects.  Barbara Ruzic is chairperson with the assistant of Barbara Brady and Diana Oliver. They also  provide technical help for using the software program Embird.

MEG (Machine Embroidery Group) meetings are open to all interested Rip ‘N’ Sew members.

Quilts for a Cause

Twice a month a group of approximately 25 women meet at Rip N Sew to dispense love.  Recently renamed “Quilts for a Cause” they create works of art in the form of quilts.  Each year these quilts send some 600 to 800 messages of love in to the community.  We distribute quilts to Banner Health Nesting Place for babies and also Hospice.  More go to the veterans via hospice organizations and M.A.N.A. house, to firemen we give blankets and quilts for children and families in need, the Sheriff’s Department and Brookdale Memory Care.  Our quilts really do reach out into the community and are greatly appreciated.

The quilts are done in a model of production when teams of these talented sewers lay out fabric and batting, then cut, stitch, tie and quilt before finally finishing each quilt with a label that says:  “Made with love by Rip N Sew, Sun City West, AZ”.

We invite all members of Rip N Sew to join us.  Even if you don’t know how to quilt, or are just beginning to dabble, we have plenty of things involved in the process that you can help with – pinning, ironing, cutting fabric.  We’ll show you how easy it is to help with this great cause.  We’re always happy to accept donations of cotton fabrics for our projects.

Quilts for a Cause meets in the Rip N Sew clubroom. Check the club calendar for day and time.

Sewing from the Heart

The Sewing from the Heart group is for all Rip N Sew members who enjoy sewing for a cause. We have fifteen active sewers in our group.  We sew mostly for children, but we will sew for any organization upon request.

We sew for the Dysart Unified School District elementary children, Nadaburg Elementary School, and the Navajo Nation Indian Tribe elementary children. We sew modern clothing and choose quality fabric for our projects. Some members cut out from patterns, some serge, and some top stitch. We sew leggings, knit tops, book bags, pillow cases, and other projects requested. We also take donations of fabric and other sewing notions.

Our group contact person is Marilyn Zenz and assisting her is Laurie Hoover.

Sewing from the Heart meets in the Rip N Sew clubroom. Check the club calendar for day and time.

Featherweight Group

This new group is for Singer Featherweight owners (or those who wish they had a Featherweight) to get together and talk about their machines, ask questions, and share knowledge about the machines.

Bring your machine and join the fun.

The Featherweight group meets in the Rip N Sew clubroom. Check the club calendar for day and time.
